At least once in life, everyone finds themselves in this very familiar place called Rock Bottom. Some of us more than others. It is usually a point in time when we find ourselves with our backs
against a wall, our hearts heavy and our minds restless but I’m here to assure you that it is never the end. On the contrary, I strongly believe that rock bottom is a very strategic place set up for us by God, in order for us to go through amazing transformations.
This place may seem very dramatic, but it is just that, a drama! Shakespeare said it, not me! You have the lead role but you also get to change the script when it is required of you. You are in fact presented with limitless opportunities within these lows to know yourself and just how amazing you are. It is not the end of the world because you get to look up. I've come to realize that each day is made up of highs and lows. We rarely give thought or gratitude for the highs so the lows take up the very difficult job of reminding us why it is necessary to exist in a mindful space. You now have a chance to embrace a fresh start. Even though you may not have the energy to have a positive outlook or see what’s in front of you, I’m here to tell you that you have the world at your fingertips. You just have to breathe, ask for help if you need it or be that bold, strong, wholesome, blessed human you are and get up, again.
Unknowingly we sometimes allow the dark energy of pure evil to sweep us off our feet but life is fragile and it is in these moments where we have to hold on, have faith and trust that our energy will always be protected and our every step guided. For as long as I’ve known myself, I have been committed to shaping my life into one that gives me peace and always leaves me connected to God. As cliche as it sounds, I believe we are ultimately connected and not just to each other and everything around us but to divinity, to God. God is a huge if not the biggest part of my life so if you do not want to hear about Him, this is not the blog for you. I hope you didn’t judge my blog by its cover.
But think about it for a second. Our very existence is as a result of being connected as a fetus to our mother’s placenta, by the umbilical cord. This cord has three blood vessels; one vein responsible for carrying food and oxygen to the baby and two arteries responsible for carrying waste from the baby back to the placenta. A mother remains connected to the fetus for it to receive what is necessary for its creation, development, and sustenance and absorbs what is toxic so that it is not destroyed but nurtured.
I like to think that when we are detached from our mother, our soul remains connected to God in the grand scheme of life. Whenever we get the opportunity to learn of His truth and consciousness, we breathe life into that sacred umbilical cord through which divinity flows. We are all children of God and this relationship I believe, should be personal, should be a priority and should be peaceful. I am an Indian Classical dancer and teacher by profession as well as a childcare provider so these truths are very easy for me to feel, as well as, embody.
But having an outlook like this doesn’t mean life is all white, fragrant jasmines and blush-pink lotuses. My childhood wasn’t typical and often left me quite confused while growing up. I was three years old when my parents separated and my mum moved back into her parent’s home with my elder sister and I. My father was pretty much absent my entire life but my mother worked extremely hard to provide everything for my sister and I and this was our greatest blessing. We did not miss out on any basic necessity, especially love. My childhood was a big, fat, rural, rollercoaster but I enjoyed every minute of it. Being blanketed and hugged by nature, mixed races, cultures, religions and traditions that wove into each other, colored my entire outlook on life. It was in that home that I embraced my identity as a Hindu Indo-Trinidadian and it was on this tiny island of Trinidad that I gained the freedom to know God as a Father and as a friend.
Society and the world at large may seem very scary. There is a lot we can say that is wrong with the world today but everything recycles and just like the seasons change so does time and everything that moves along with it. Just as there is an overwhelming amount of bad things in the world, goodness exists and it exists in the most minute ways. Looking internally at ourselves requires a lot of work, patience and kindness. But it is with deep and constant introspection that we heal and our external lives become something we can be proud of, something we can contribute to and a place we can call Eden again.
The world does not owe us anything but I believe that each person is intended to spend time in this realm and for the time that we are here we owe it to future generations to leave the space better than what once existed. By a better place I don’t mean physically, more convenient, or technologically advanced but I mean better in terms of quality. A quality of life that is necessary for our soul to live out its purpose free of negative karma. A space that breathes tranquillity and togetherness with an abundance of the greatest force known to man, love. This may seem naive to think of life in this way but why should life be a daunting, difficult, mundane cycle of existence for the masses and a pleasurable ride for the rich and powerful?
It does not have to be. All these are intangible things but it is at the very core of what makes us or breaks us. None of us has asked to be here but we were given life and we are left to navigate through years and years of uncertainty. It isn’t as scary as it sounds though. Remember that divine umbilical cord and those three tiny vessels. They’ve got you! The Holy Trinity got you babe! Be it Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Supernal Triad, the Egyptian, Greek, Babylonian, Vedic or Tao Trinity, divinity flows directly to and through you. It creates and sustains your passions and purpose and while you make mistakes, learn and chisel out a character you are proud of, divinity destroys and removes all toxicity from your life.
Within these words, I hope you find the courage to build a relationship with God and bask in that love and protection. I hope you recognize what’s holding you back and ask Him to remove it from your path. Your journey should be unapologetic and entirely yours. Whatever you want, He will push you to uncomfortable heights to achieve it. You just have to always remember that connection and fight the difficult fight.
Love ya unconditionally!
Alana
